Canoe Adventures       The Greenbrier River in West Virginia is one of the longest free flowing rivers in the East. In the spring, float some of the upper sections for bird watching and pristine nature, or the deeper sections downstream when mid-summer arrives. At an average elevation change of less than 7 percent for the majority of the areas we operate, The Greenbrier River is perfect for serene half day to multi-day floats for the entire family. During seasons of normal rainfall, The Greenbrier’s navigability is compromised by mid-July. Therefore, the best times to enjoy The Greenbrier River are Spring and early Summer.       The Jackson River , just across the divide to the east in Virginia, is a managed trout stream and bird habitat. Dropping at eleven feet per mile, this is a classic canoe ride. With 16 miles of dam controlled beginner-intermediate paddling between Gathright Dam and Covington, Virginia, this is a great day-float section of mountain stream. If you crave for more Virginia water trail scenery, you may get a lift around Westvaco Paper mill and float The Jackson until it joins The Cowpasture River to form The James River in Iron Gate Va. Then head East to the Coast! |
